Welcome! - Updated 11/20/14 - OUR NEW VIDEO IS LIVE!!!
Welcome to The Peter Emily International Veterinary Dental Foundation (PEIVDF).
The mission of PEIVDF is to provide advanced veterinary dental services for the benefit of captive exotic animals located in facilities in the US and abroad through an increase in the provision of advanced veterinary dental services and veterinary dental education.
PEIVDF began conducting Missions in October 2008, first as a private foundation, now as a public 501(c)(3) charity. In just over 6 years, our small charity has:
- Treated 224 animals at 16 sanctuaries during 39 missions:
- lions, tigers, leopards, cougars, jaguars, bears, wolves, hippos, chimpanzees, baboons, and ferrets, to name a few species
- Performed 343 Root Canal Therapies, 201 Extractions, and 89 other procedures
This may seem like a lot of animals and a lot of procedures, but remember, there are more than 600 exotic animal sanctuaries and more than 200 zoos and aquariums in the US and Canada alone. That leaves a LOT of animals in need of dental work! Please help us continue our work by DONATING today!
Need to be convinced about how important dental care is to these animals? Click HERE to read this posting on the Wild Animal Sanctuary's site, reporting how much ColoColo's demeanor and energy level have improved since his root canal.
PEIVDF provides their expert services - and the supplies required in the provision of these service - directly to the animals. That way, PEIVDF's efforts directly benefit each animal on which we work. Facilities as a whole do not receive direct monetary benefit from the provision of PEIVDF services.

Upcoming Missions: IN SCHEDULING
The Wild Animal Sanctuary - early Spring 2015
PEIVDF will be returning to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg CO likely some time in the Spring to work on lions being rescued from circuses in Peru by Animal Defenders International. Like Bolivia, Peru recently banned the use of exotic animals in circuses. ADI is currently in Peru rounding up all the animals for relocation to sanctuaries in country and abroad. The dates and the details of the patient list are as yet unknown, as the confiscation process is still on-going.
Exotic Feline Rescue Center - SPRING 2015
PEIVDF will be returning to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center during the Spring 2015. We expect to have the usual mix of lions and tigers (no bears...) As soon as we have a date scheduled, we'll announce it here and on our website and Facebook page.
